A Career in Real Estate?

A career in real estate is fluid, ever-changing, and highly rewarding. You can choose to specialize in residential or commercial sales, property management, appraisals, mortgages, or even brokerage.

There are many options available when you enter the lucrative field of real estate sales. A quick search online will show you that sales professionals in this industry make more money on average than their counterparts in other industries. Additionally, they also have more job openings available.

Job growth for the retail industry is predicted to increase by about 9% until 2020. However, positions related to real estate are expected to grow at twice that rate (18%). Since people will always need somewhere to live and work, it's easy to see why the demand for people in this industry is high. Plus, its high salary offers a way for you to enter into a profession that can be challenging and rewarding.

Depending on your needs and preferences, you might be interested in part-time or full-time employment. The field of real estate also offers flexible work hours; you can choose to either go with traditional 9 am-5 pm workdays or opt for more unconventional options such as working weekends or nights.

Although potential employers in this industry might be more concerned with experience, it's often easier to get a job if you have some sort of certification or training under your belt. This isn't always the case but should be considered when looking for work.

Most people start out by gaining real estate sales experience while working other jobs. Since this field is so popular, it's not that difficult to find gainful employment. You can either choose full-time employment or go into business for yourself.

Career Opportunities

There are several career options available once you decide on specializing in real estate. The first option is retail sales positions. These include both outside brokers who meet with clients and sell properties and those who work inside the office, often as a team manager. The second option is property management positions. There are many types of companies that hire for this type of job, and you can either choose to become a leasing agent (those who rent out properties) or an on-site manager (those who deal with tenants).

If you want to get deeper into the industry, consider becoming a licensed appraiser. You'll be given an extensive education before taking licensing exams and will need to earn state certification. This field offers several different roles, such as salesperson, project manager, and contract administrator.

Since real estate agents are required by law to have a license, it only makes sense for brokers to require their employees to be licensed too. This opens up the door for people in the industry to become mortgage professionals. To get started, you'll need to take a class that will prepare you for your licensing exam. You can either work on successful completion of this course while employed by an established company or choose to go into business for yourself.

The last option is brokerage. If you're interested in owning and managing your own real estate enterprise, this might be the right fit for you. You'll need extensive knowledge of marketing, finance, sales, and management skills before even thinking about opening up shop on your own. But once you have everything set up properly, being a broker provides its owner with significant income potential.

As you can see, there are many career options available to those who choose to study and work in this field. They all offer salaries and positions that other industries can't match.

It's easy to see why job growth for real estate employees is expected to increase at such a high rate; people will always need somewhere to live and work. If you're interested in pursuing a career as a salesperson, property manager, appraiser, mortgage professional, or broker, it's going to take hard work and lots of education. But once you have the right set-up and experience under your belt, you'll have the opportunity to earn a significant income year after year.

To begin a lucrative career in this industry, all it takes is a willingness to work hard while pursuing a high school education. From there, you should be able to find gainful employment by obtaining your real estate license and taking additional courses that will help increase your marketability. At the same time, you should look for reputable training programs or colleges that can help prepare you for entry into this growing field. One day soon, you'll have the freedom to run your own business and make good money doing it
